rePROFilm and Peace is Loud present the second cycle of Collective Lens: A Community Impact Space, a special training program for filmmakers working on stories supporting reproductive justice.
Collective Lens will host up to 10 filmmaking teams including filmmakers with both documentary and narrative short films projects. This program will be offered virtually and at no charge to participants. Collective Lens will include five virtual sessions over the course of six months. The sessions will include:
- Introductory Open Space – Wednesday October 9, 2024
- Collective Lens: Impact Fundamentals – Wednesday November 13, 2024. An overview of the what, why, and how of impact and impact campaigns. This section will offer an expansive definition of impact, as a values-driven practice for filmmakers to integrate into their own processes, and the skills to strategically design their own impact plans.
- Collective Lens: On the Divide Case Study – Wednesday February 12, 2025. A presentation of Peace is Loud’s impact campaign for On the Divide (Maya Cueva & Leah Galant, 2022), which explored the ongoing fight for abortion rights and access in Texas. The case study will provide an in-depth look at the campaign, from strategy development through wrap, covering a year’s worth of work. The film was featured in rePRO Film’s second film festival.
- Open Space: Impact x Industry panel – Wednesday April 9, 2025 – an intimate panel discussion for cohort members featuring other industry professionals whose work intersects with impact.
- Closing Open Space – Wednesday May 14, 2025
In between the sessions, the filmmakers will have the opportunity to participate in virtual community gatherings with Cycle 1 filmmakers. These will be taking place on Wednesday 12/11/24 and 3/12/25. Participating filmmakers will also be able to hold one-on-one meetings with representatives with Peace is Loud and rePROFilm.
Participating filmmakers in Collective Lens will receive unrestricted grants of $3,000 to support their impact work.
Collective Lens applicants will need to submit a brief application and film materials to be considered. Peace is Loud and rePROFilm will prioritize filmmakers who are underrepresented and under-recognized in the industry and/or from systems-oppressed communities and backgrounds, including (and not limited to) women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ people, immigrant people, people with disabilities, and undocumented people. Further, the program will be geared towards filmmakers who:
- Are in production, post-production, rough cut, or completed stages
- Are committed to integrating impact plans into their project
- Commit to attending all five formal sessions (only 1 filmmaker per film team is required to attend)
rePROFilm and Peace is Loud envision that Collective Lens will help build community for filmmakers committed to reproductive justice and support positioning their films in solidarity with the movement.
