Angela Davis Johnson creates paintings, installations, and ritual performances to reflect life from a Southern Black femme experience. ADJ explores dreaming, Black traditions, and body movement alongside her vibrant narrative paintings. She is a member of Alternate Roots and a Joan Mitchell/Visual Arts Scholars alum. ADJ is co-creator of Hollerin Space with partner Muthi Reed. Her work has been exhibited extensively. She has performed on front porches to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The mother of two has deep roots in the Arkansas Delta and continues to create while migrating and maintaining a studio in Atlanta and Philadelphia.
