As a first-generation immigrant from South Asia, Sonny Mehta has lectured at Dartmouth, Harvard, US Military Academy on music, poetry, and traditions of his homeland. Mehta has first-hand experience with how ethnic and religious divisions can have disastrous impacts on marginalized communities’ access to civic engagement. His artistic work has been honored at a White House performance, featured on Huffington Post, NPR, and NY Times. Mehta has won local grants and national awards for his art being a catalyst for social engagement. Mehta’s goal with his art is to build bridges to communities that have been marginalized.
