Franconia Sculpture Park Residency / Deadline: August 1

Franconia Sculpture Park (FSP) operates a 50-acre outdoor museum, an artist-in-residence program, public programming, and expansive educational initiatives. FSP is located near the Twin Cities in Minnesota and supports sculpture, land art, ceramics, contemporary craft, experimental sound/music, socially engaged art, multidisciplinary art, installation, and performance. The program and facilities promote a collaborative community, foster new work and intellectual exchange, offer exhibition and presentation opportunities, and provide artists with exposure to the Twin Cities.

Franconia provides a communal residency experience where up to nine selected artists live on-site in a 4500 sq. ft. farmhouse. The facility includes nine private bedrooms, 2.5 shared bathrooms, two kitchens, and common spaces. FSP provides food, laundry facilities, utilities, and WIFI for artist use.

In celebration of the launch of Franconia Sculpture Park’s 4Ground: Midwest Land Art Biennial, Franconia is focusing 2022 curatorial initiatives and public programs on site-specific work that raises awareness of important land and water issues while celebrating the art and landscapes of the rural Midwest. In response to the Eurocentric art historical notion of land art rooted in man moving and controlling the earth, Franconia will be supporting work created with a feminist, indigenous perspective, drawing on the more than 10,000-year history of land art created by native peoples in the Upper Midwest.

For the 26th residency year, Franconia Sculpture Park is encouraging applicants with an interest in work rooted in our theme, Land Art & Temporality. This addresses the intersection of art and ecology, including but not limited to: performance; sound art; public interventions; site-specific and ephemeral installation; the rural and natural landscape; earthworks; collaborative works with nature; indigenous history and storytelling; and land and water rights.
